What should I do if I have been scammed?
Don’t feel embarrassed, scams can happen to anyone. The important thing is to act quickly and seek help.
What to do immediately:
- Contact your bank: If you’ve shared bank details or transferred money, contact your bank immediately to secure your account and discuss next steps
- Stop all contact: Don’t respond to the suspected scammer. Block them where possible
- Secure your accounts: Change compromised password and PINs, enable two factor authentication and check for suspicious activity.
What to do next
- Report the scam: Report fraud to Report Fraud online or by calling 0300 123 2040
- Contact the police if necessary: If you’re threatened, harassed or in immediate danger, contact the police. Further guidance is available from Dyfed-Powys Police.
