How do I use the microfiche / microfilm reader?

This page provides instruction on using Canon Roll/Fiche Carrier 200 reader.

 
  • Switch the reader and the printer on. The printer power button is on its right side and the reader power button is on the front

  • Move the film carrier to the back until it stops. If it is not pushed all the way to the back it will not work.

  • Carefully pull the lens out - do not force it
  • Pull the fiche carrier towards the middle

  • It should look like the picture below:
  • Make sure the dot on the large wheel on the external control panel is aligned with the dot on the panel itself
  • Fit the lens. Take the lens marked X16-32 out of its box

  • Carefully push the lens into the holder - make sure the metal wires are aligned or it will not work

  • You may need to lift the lens out of the holder slightly so that it doesn't catch the edge of the glass plates

  • Push the lens back into the bracket firmly until it clicks
  • Pull the carrier forwards until the glass lifts so that the film is positioned under the lens

  • Place microfiche in between the two pieces of glass. Put it in upside down and back to front so the text reads right to left and up to down

  • Push the panel back under the lens to display the microfiche on the screen
  • Move the panel around to display the part of the image you want to view

  • When you have finished:
    • Remove the microfiche from the glass panel
    • Take the lens out
    • Push the carrier back
    • Push the lens back in
    • Switch off the printer and the reader

Using the control panel to view the microfiche

  • Many buttons are duplicated on the reader itself. Please use the external panel if not confident.

CONTROL

The Control wheel allows you to zoom in and out, rotate the image or to adjust the focus (located on the side of the panel)

SELECT

Allows you to switch between ZOOM, FOCUS and ROTATE options (located on the side of the panel)

 

This section of the control panel indicates which of the above options is currently selected

Printout options

This section controls the printout options. When printing something, make sure the middle option is selected by pressing the button the required amount of times

Portrait to landscape indicator

By default the printer prints the portrait selection off the screen. If you wish to print the landscape selection press this button once so it lights up. The printer will now print the area within the landscape selection.

Rotate image counterclockwise

Press this button once to rotate the image on the screen 90° anticlockwise

Rotate image clockwise

Press this button once to rotate the image on the screen 90° clockwise

Print option

Press this button once to print the area within the selection on the screen

Error code screen

This screen displays the error codes in case an error occurs. Please refer to the error codes section below for more information

Contrast setting

This allows you to change the contrast of the printout, however using FOCUS setting usually allows you to achieve better results

Film movement control

The large wheel on the control panel allows you to fast forward and rewind the film on the roll to move between different pages/slides. If the motor starts spinning too fast return the wheel to its original position to stop the film and rewind if necessary.

If an error occurs its code will be shown on the error code monitor on the control panel.

Zoom key M1, M2 or M3 was pressed, but the zoom value is for a different lens.

The lens is not mounted properly

Change the lens to the one used when you recorded M1, M2 or M3 value

Pull out the lens holder and adjust the lens so that it is mounted correctly

Wrong paper size in the printer

Replace the paper with the A4 sheets

Printer is switched off

Switch on the printer
